Our Mission

An oceanside farm, Amber Waves unites food and community with the mission to provide rich educational opportunities in agriculture for aspiring growers, thoughtful cooks, and eaters of all ages.

Your contribution will fund curriculum development to accommodate more children next season, to educate the next generation of organic farmers, and to provide fresh vegetables to our neighbors in need. Give to Grow with Amber Waves.

Our Programs

By connecting eaters of every generation to their food and the farmers who grow it, Amber Waves empowers healthy eating and an understanding of local food systems, while bringing joy and creativity back to agriculture. This rich, participatory environment creates a connective spirit of community.

  • Apprenticeship Program: Farming is essential work and we need to strengthen our regional food supplies by training more farmers in the practices of sustainable agriculture. Please help us educate a new class of apprentices in 2022. To date we've trained nearly 50 new farmers almost all of whom are still involved in food and agriculture.

  • Children's Farm-based Education Program: Access to outdoor learning opportunities for school field trips, homeschoolers, and pod groups is more critical than ever. We are so pleased to have hosted hundreds of children on the farm for outdoor learning about food, agriculture, and nature.

  • Farm-to-Food Pantry Program: We had a bountiful harvest and have more than 4 tons of food ready to go to the food pantry. Your donation helps families in need access farm fresh food. We proudly work with the Springs Food Pantry, CMEE Food Pantry, East Hampton Food Pantry, Good Eats, and the Montauk Senior Center.

Our Story

Amber Waves began by way of apprenticeship that forged a friendship, which inspired a dream to nourish the local community. In 2008, Amanda Merrow and Katie Baldwin met in an apprenticeship program helmed by poet farmer Scott Chaskey.

Moved by their own experience meeting as young apprentices, Katie and Amanda launched their very own Apprenticeship Program in 2012 with the mission to grow the next generation of farmers and teach them the art of sustainable agriculture. They’ve since sent nearly 50 new farmers (mostly women!) out into the world, the most important crop they’ve ever grown.

Now, nearly 30 acres across a patchwork of fields in Amagansett and East Hampton, Amber Waves embarks on its second decade with unlimited potential, on track to become one of the premier educational farm operations in the country.

We thank you for your support and generosity. We can't wait to see you on the farm.
